LiveWell Weekly Newsletter Summary – November 17, 2025
This week’s newsletter highlights two important focuses for our community: strengthening walkability in Finney County and raising awareness during American Diabetes Month.
🔍 What Is a Walkability Study?
LiveWell discusses how walkability studies help communities evaluate how easy, safe, and enjoyable it is for people to walk in local neighborhoods. These assessments look at sidewalks, lighting, traffic speeds, accessibility for strollers and wheelchairs, trail connectivity, and overall comfort for pedestrians.
Finney County continues to prioritize safe and active transportation. Findings from walkability studies guide improvements to sidewalks, trails, safety features, and neighborhood connectivity. A recent example includes the LHEAT team completing a study in September 2024.
🩺 November Is American Diabetes Month
The newsletter explains the key differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes:
  • Type 1: An autoimmune condition, usually diagnosed in youth, requiring insulin and not preventable.
  • Type 2: More common; influenced by family history, physical inactivity, and weight. Often preventable or delayed with healthy habits and regular screenings.
Early detection is critical, especially because many people with Type 2 diabetes may not know they have it. LiveWell encourages residents to talk with their healthcare provider about screenings and healthy lifestyle steps.
