Building a Healthier, More Supportive Community

This week, LiveWell Finney County is celebrating two major community initiatives focused on supporting families and promoting mental wellness across Finney County.

🤱 Working Toward a Community Supporting Breastfeeding Designation

Our Local Health Equity Action Team (LHEAT), in partnership with the Community Breastfeeding Coalition and the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition (KBC), is working toward earning the Community Supporting Breastfeeding Designation for Finney County.

A key step in this effort is participation in KBC’s Breastfeeding Welcome Here Program. This initiative encourages local businesses to pledge their support for breastfeeding families by displaying a “Breastfeeding Welcome Here” decal—creating a more welcoming environment for mothers and babies.

Our LHEAT’s goal is to have 50 local businesses take the pledge. It’s easy to participate, and doing so shows your business values family health and inclusion.

To sign the pledge or learn more, visit the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition website (https://ksbreastfeeding.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/BWH-Tool-Kit-2017-English.pdf) or contact LiveWellFinneyCounty@gmail.com.

🧠 Promoting Mental Health Awareness

LiveWell staff recently led a Mental Health First Aid Training at St. Dominic Church, helping equip participants to recognize and respond to signs of mental health challenges in our community.

Additionally, LiveWell’s Heather Wright-Renick attended “Standing in the Gap: Rural & Frontier Access to Mental Health Care, a Faith-Based Approach” in Garden City. This event highlighted the importance of speaking openly about mental health, sharing stories of resilience, and connecting people to lifesaving resources.

Two key reminders from the event:

  • “Heal and recover loudly” so that others don’t suffer in silence.
  • When your life feels overwhelming, dial 988. Help is always available.
