LiveWell Finney County is excited to announce the addition of Lucy Watie as a Community Health Worker (CHW) based out of Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. Lucy will play a vital role in a Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) grant program aimed at supporting individuals living with HIV in rural Kansas communities.
This grant, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is part of a nationwide initiative involving Kansas, two other states, and Puerto Rico. Over the next three years, the program will train and deploy Community Health Workers to assist individuals diagnosed with HIV who are not in care or not virally suppressed. Special emphasis will be placed on addressing mental health, substance use disorders, and social determinants of health, as well as providing support for medical appointments, transportation, and medication adherence.
Lucy brings enthusiasm and a deep commitment to community health to her new role. When asked what excites her most about joining LiveWell Finney County, Lucy said, “I am absolutely thrilled to be part of LiveWell’s mission and to collaborate with such an incredible team! It’s truly an amazing opportunity to make a difference together.”
Lucy is eager to meet individuals where they are on their journeys and help them achieve their goals. “There’s nothing quite like meeting individuals where they are on their journey,” she shared. “Success stories ignite my passion! Being a Community Health Worker is one of the most fulfilling roles I can imagine. Each time a client achieves even a single goal, it’s a monumental success.”
Outside of work, Lucy looks forward to pursuing her bucket-list goal of attending an Atlanta Braves baseball game.
LiveWell Finney County is proud to welcome Lucy Watie to the team and looks forward to the positive impact she will have on rural communities in southwest Kansas through this transformative program.
